A short note on the Trump-Russia scandal

This whole thing is much ado about nothing.

Intelligence sharing in regards to the global war on Islamic peoples terrorism has been an ongoing affair for numerous states since the collapse of socialism in 1989. Russia, the US, Europe, Israel, states in the Near East, and China have all shared intelligence in this regard.

Here’s what’s happening in the US: the American Left needs a foreign boogeyman to harp on the Right. The Right uses Muslims, immigrants, and China to harp on the Left, but the Left counters with charges of racism and xenophobia. The Left still needs a foreign boogeyman (voters love foreign scapegoats) and Russia’s political class is white, conservative, and Christian. Traditionally (at least in my time) the Left’s foreign boogeyman has been Israel and its political class (white and conservative but not Christian), but populism in Russia has produced a product that the American left just couldn’t resist.

This is a boring scandal.

(Reminder: I’m not a Trump supporter.)

  1. Lol. Yes, i guess this second most recent scandal is boring compared to pussy grabbing. Maybe the next one will be more titillating. Before I go further on this scandal, who around here has ever had a security clearance? I had Top Secret Crypto and Top Secret NoForn. Anyone else with personal experience?

    • I don’t have any security clearances but I got tossed in a Barcelona jail cell a few years back.

Why do bring up security clearances?

      • In my opinion you’re being too shallow with your comments on sharing classified information. There are incredible bureaucratic procedures enforced by people that are totally devoid of any sense of humor. My last 2 years in the USAF were at Minot AFB. There was a missile wing and bomber wing from the strategic air command and a fighter wing from NORAD. Canada is part of NORAD and there were Canadian personnel on the base. What info was shared was incredibly tightly controlled. I hated it when Canadians came to the command post because all of our stuff was not to be shared so the door to the command post was locked whenever Canadians were there. The head was on the other side of that locked door so if you’d been drinking coffee you were in trouble.

The inappropriate sharing of classified info is a big deal. Your boogeyman story is a good start at kiddie lit but needs spicing up – how about tossing in George Soros?

      • The news has recently broken that Agent Orange did more than pass on classified info to Russians in the oval office, he had to brag about obstructing justice…“I just fired the head of the FBI. He was crazy, a real nut job,” Trump said, according to the Times. “I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.” You’re going to have to redo your kiddie lit. I have 2 suggestions for your revised boogeyman story. First, as I mentioned previously, you really need to work in George Soros. No librul conspiracy is complete without Soros. Second, double down on the Oldie but Goodie conspiracy theme: Vince Foster. I have to give the comment below by Jeff full credit. Bring in Seth Rich and segue to Vince Foster. You could really drive some traffic to the site, there are a lot of wingnuts out in the inter-webs.

      • Oh good, a quote from the unbiased NYT and, of course, insults.

Can’t imagine why Trump was elected.

        Dr A:

In the real world, Russia makes a great foreign boogeyman for the American Left. It’s current political class is conservative, white, and Christian. None of your red herrings address this very simple point. Do you believe that the American Left doesn’t exploit xenophobia for votes?

More fundamentally: Do you think the issue of government openness is a major one? What did Trump say to Russian political leaders that was so secret it gave the leftist press hemorrhoids?

      • “Do you believe that the American Left doesn’t exploit xenophobia for votes?”

        Yes. It does not.

“More fundamentally: Do you think the issue of government openness is a major one?”

        Yes.

“What did Trump say to Russian political leaders that was so secret it gave the leftist press hemorrhoids?”

Terrorists from ISIS, “…have determined how to implant and mask an explosive inside the battery of a laptop computer, increasing the likelihood that a bomb can be slipped past screeners onto an airplane.” The thing that Agent Orange blabbed about was the city that the Israeli spy was operating in. You really should try to keep up with current events.

      • Woah, woah, woah. Trump told the Russians that ISIS is trying to use a new tactic to kill people? And an Israeli spy was in a city where the information came from? This is the scandal the Left is manufacturing?

        LOL.

Just curious: What was Israel’s response to the news?

More fundamentally: Terrorism in the Middle East is an international issue. It looks as if the Israelis, the US, and Moscow are collaborating on a specific issue. No wonder the American Left is throwing a fit! (Fascists. Fascists everywhere!)

You don’t believe that Democrats exploit xenophobia for votes? Unicorns and fairy dust, Dr A. Unicorns and fairy dust…

(PS: I think manufactured scandals are a necessary component of a free and open society. It means the system in place is working. What is more interesting to me is the disappearance of a “mainstream” press and the new reality of an overtly biased press that favors the Right or Left. This is how free and open societies work. The Left convinced itself for so long that it’s view was the responsible, mainstream one – unicorns and fairy dust – so it’s entertaining to see Leftists shit bricks trying to maintain such a facade.)

      • “You don’t believe that Democrats exploit xenophobia for votes? Unicorns and fairy dust, Dr A. Unicorns and fairy dust…” You know I love snark but I like data better. Give me an actual example or two.

“What is more interesting to me is the disappearance of a “mainstream” press and the new reality of an overtly biased press that favors the Right or Left.”

Although I’ve published research on newspapers [and the political press in particular] Professor Pinnochio is the resident expert on newspapers. As for the modern media I can only voice my opinion. I agree with your statement about polarization but….[you know there has to be a but…]. Newspapers started out political and polarized*. The quest for growth led to an abandonment of overt partisanship and a focus on crime, sports, society events et cetera. In other words infotainment of a particular kind. More modern mass media [radio & tv] seemed to have the same general strategy – don’t be too partisan because it limits the size of your potential market. Something has changed so that dominating a specialized niche [market segment] is preferred to competing for the center of the media market. I don’t know why.

*the business press is an exception.

      • Dr A,
You’ll have to forgive me if I don’t take VOANews and Mother Jones “reporting” seriously. I’ll take their op-eds seriously, but their “reports” are op-eds, too. These Leftist outlets are either too cowardly to admit such, or they truly think that their reports are not opinion pieces. I don’t know which one is more dangerous to the public at large, but for the health and strength of the Right the latter can only be a (continued) good sign of things to come…

    • I’ve been wanting to get clearance to access census microdata. Can we have a talk on census clearance at some point?

  2. The problem is that anything Trump does is, by definition, a scandal of the greatest proportions to the Fourth Estate. This makes it difficult for a layman like myself to understand what I should be concerned about, and what is another manufactured outrage. The heuristic I generally use is if the media is angry about something, it’s probably nothing to worry about, but if they’re happy about something, I should pay close attention.

In this case, I have heard the accounts of negligent intelligence sharing were contradicted by McMaster, for what an administration official’s opinion worth.

    • Well if being a media contrarian as a way of life works for you, go for it. If i’d done what the short-fingered vulgarian did I would’ve done hard time in a federal prison [not sure how they compare to a Barcelona jail cell]. CNN has reported that they were asked to not report the specific information that cheeto jesus blabbed to the russians beause it would damage national security. The pussy-grabber-in-chief can declassify on the fly so what he did isn’t illegal just wildly irresponsible. But hey the fourth estate [minus Fox of course] is angry so don’t worry about it.

  3. Exactly, it is the left’s feable attempt at distracting from much more serious news – like Seth Rich was alive until after he arrived at the hospital after being gunned down. Need to check the first respondor’s body cams for conversations that may have happened. Or if those first respondors are even still alive.

Please keep it civil
