Eric Schwizgebel has misinterpreted the Golden Rule, as many people do, by taking it out of context. Jesus was asked by a fellow Jew to name the most important Commandments. ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and mind’, and the other one is like it- “You shall love your neighbour as yourself”. When asked, who is my neighbour, Jesus gave us the parable of the Good Samaritan- in short, Jesus tells us not to be racists- any human could be your ‘neighbour’! Babies start out liking people who are most like their parents and family, and need to learn to treat all equally. When kept in context, the Golden rule is better.
